Description: Ferrous sulfate has the chemical formula FeSO4. Its prevalent hydrate, FeSO4·7H2O, is popularly called green vitriol. Presenting as a light blue - green monoclinic crystal, in dry air, it undergoes efflorescence. When exposed to moist air, it is highly susceptible to oxidation, with a brown - yellow basic ferric sulfate layer forming on its surface.
