Sodium Formate (with the chemical formula NaHCO2) is a white crystalline powder or granule with a slight irritating odor. It is an organic salt formed by the combination of formate ions (HCO2-) and sodium ions (Na+). Sodium formate has high stability at room temperature, with a melting point of 258-261ºC, a boiling point of 100.6ºC (760 mmHg), a flash point of 29.9ºC, and a vapor pressure of 36.5 mmHg (25ºC). It is soluble in water, appears as a white solid, and is hygroscopic.
