Anhydrous calcium chloride (CaCl2) is a white, crystalline solid or granular powder. It is highly hygroscopic, meaning it readily absorbs moisture from the air. This property makes it widely used as a desiccant and drying agent. It is also used for de-icing roads, as a firming agent in the food industry, and in oil drilling fluids. It must be stored in a sealed container to prevent it from absorbing moisture and clumping together.
