Properties
• Appearance: Colorless crystals or white granules, flakes, lumps, or powders, with a bitter and astringent taste.
• Density: 1.85 g/cm³.
• Solubility: Highly soluble in water, releasing a large amount of heat during dissolution. Its aqueous solution is neutral or slightly alkaline. It is also soluble in alcohols but insoluble in ether.
• Hygroscopicity: Extremely hygroscopic, it deliquesces rapidly when exposed to air.
• Stability: Decomposes into monohydrate when heated to 175°C, and dehydrates to anhydrous calcium chloride when heated to 260°C.
