Sodium sulfite is commonly known as sulfur oxide powder, there are two kinds of sodium sulfite and sodium sulfite heptahydrate. Anhydrous sodium sulfite is white powder; Sodium sulfite heptahydrate is colorless or slightly yellow crystal, easily soluble in water, the aqueous solution is alkaline, easy to weather in the air and be oxidized to sodium sulfate. Sodium sulfite is widely used in industrial and civil fields. It is one of the important pulping methods in the paper industry to cook plant fiber with sodium sulfite cooking solution at a certain temperature and pressure, and the paper industry is also the industry that consumes the most sodium sulfite products. Sodium sulfite is widely used to remove dissolved oxygen from water because of its low price, convenient source and fast reaction rate with oxygen. Sodium sulfite is used for leather treatment, can make leather soft, full, tough, waterproof, anti-folding, wear and other properties. Sodium sulfite is a widely used food additive permitted by the state, which can be used as bleach, preservative, loose agent, antioxidant, color protection and fresh-keeping agent for food processing.

Application
1. Textile Industry: As a bleaching agent and deoxidizer, it is used in the bleaching and mercerizing processes of fabrics. It can effectively prevent the loss of fiber strength while improving the fineness and whiteness of the fabric, thereby enhancing the quality of dyeing and printing.
2. Paper Industry: In the bleaching and pulping processes of paper pulp, it acts as a reducing agent and dechlorinator. It removes residual from the pulp, prevents the oxidative degradation of pulp fibers, and improves the quality and strength of the paper.
3. Water Treatment: As an oxygen scavenger and dechlorinator, it is used in boiler water treatment and wastewater treatment. It can rapidly remove dissolved oxygen and excess preventing equipment corrosion, extending the service life of equipment, and reducing environmental pollution.
4. Food Industry: As a preservative and antioxidant, it is widely used in foods such as dried fruits, nuts, jams, potato products, baking powder, sausages, candies, edible oils, beer, wine, soft drinks, and vinegar. It effectively extends the shelf life of food and maintains its color and flavor.
