  Aluminum sulfate, with the chemical formula Al2 (SO4) 3 and a molecular weight of 342.15, is a white crystalline powder with a density of 2.71g/cm3. It is soluble in water but insoluble in ethanol, and the aqueous solution is acidic

   The melting point of aluminum sulfate is 770 ºC. When heated to 250 ºC, it loses its crystal water and begins to decompose when heated to 300 ºC The solubility of its aqueous solution increases with temperature

1. Food processing

Swelling agent: Food grade ammonium aluminum sulfate or potassium aluminum sulfate is often used as a swelling agent for flour products (such as deep-fried dough sticks, biscuits, cakes, etc.), which can produce carbon dioxide gas by reacting with acidic substances to expand the dough to form a porous structure.

Curing agent: used in jellyfish processing to help remove moisture and toxins from jellyfish, improve their taste and quality.

Acidifiers and stabilizers: used to adjust the pH value of food and extend its shelf life.

2. Drinking water purification

Food grade aluminum sulfate is a commonly used water purification flocculant that can effectively remove suspended solids, turbidity, organic matter, and heavy metal ions from water, especially suitable for low temperature, low turbidity, and high pH water.

3. Other uses

 

Paper industry: As a paper sizing agent, it enhances the water resistance and impermeability of paper.
