Presenting as flake - like crystals, it typically has a white or off - white color. However, due to the presence of a small quantity of impurities, it might exhibit a slightly yellowish tint.
This compound tastes bitter and is highly soluble in water. When it dissolves in water, a hydrolysis reaction occurs, causing the solution to be weakly acidic. In humid air, it is deliquescent on account of its strong water - absorbing property. Its melting point ranges from 116 to 118°C, and its relative density is approximately 1.56.
