Physical and chemical properties
1.Appearance: White or slightly yellow crystalline powder.
2.Odor: There is a strong irritant odor
3.Solubility: Easily soluble in water, its aqueous solution is acidic. The solubility in water increases with temperature, and at 20 ºC, the solubility is about 64g/100mL of water. It is also soluble in glycerol and slightly soluble in ethanol.
4.Density: Approximately 1.48g/cm ³
5.Stability: It is easily oxidized in air, and when exposed to moisture or humid air, it will slowly oxidize and decompose, and generating sodium sulfate. When heated to around 150 ºC, it will decompose and produce products such as sodium sulfate.

Application
Chemical industry: It is an important reducing agent and sulfonating agent. In the printing and dyeing industry, it is used in the dyeing process of reducing dyes to soluble chromophores, which can better penetrate into the interior of fibers for dyeing; In organic synthesis, as a sulfonating agent, it participates in the sulfonation reaction of certain compounds to prepare organic compounds containing sulfonic acid groups; It can also be used to treat chromium containing wastewater, reducing hexavalent chromium to trivalent chromium for subsequent precipitation removal.
Paper industry: used for bleaching and steaming processes of pulp.
