Odorless. Tasteless. It decomposes into calcium oxide and carbon dioxide at 825ºC. It is soluble in dilute acid and releases carbon dioxide, but is insoluble in alcohol. There are two kinds of crystals, one is orthorhombic crystal aragonite, and the other is hexagonal rhombohedral crystal calcite. Calcite is irritating.
Natural limestone is composed of calcium carbonate, which can be obtained by mining and processing limestone.
