Definition
Soft water salt is a specialized type of salt primarily used in water softening systems. It is designed to regenerate the ion-exchange resins in these systems.

Composition
Mainly composed of high - purity sodium chloride (NaCl). Some varieties may also contain trace amounts of additives to prevent caking and improve the flowability of the salt.

Working Principle
1.In a water softener, hard water containing calcium and magnesium ions passes through a resin bed. The resin attracts and holds these hard-water ions. When the resin becomes saturated, soft water salt is dissolved in water to form a brine solution.
2.The high concentration of sodium ions in the brine causes the resin to release the calcium and magnesium ions and replace them with sodium ions, thus regenerating the resin's softening capacity.

Types
1.Pelletized Soft Water Salt:
These are small, uniform pellets that are easy to handle and dissolve. They have a consistent shape and size, which helps in efficient use in water softening systems.
2.Block Soft Water Salt:
Larger, solid blocks of salt. They are more suitable for some larger - capacity water softening units and can provide a longer - lasting supply of salt.

Applications
