Application
In tap water treatment or industrial circulating water systems, residual substances may remain in the water. Such residues can harm aquatic organisms and damage certain water-using equipment. Sodium sulfite is capable of effectively removing these residues.
In the paper industry's pulping process, sodium sulfite is a frequently employed cooking additive. Within chemical pulping techniques, particularly in the sulfate and sulfite processes, sodium sulfite engages in chemical reactions. It can react with lignin to detach it from plant fibers, thus yielding cellulose pulp of relatively high purity.
Sodium sulfite also serves to prevent oxidized color change of printed and dyed fabrics during subsequent processing or storage. Fabrics are prone to oxidation reactions upon exposure to atmospheric oxygen, which can cause fading or discoloration. As an antioxidant, sodium sulfite reacts with and consumes oxygen, thus safeguarding the colorfastness of the fabrics.
