Industrial - grade fumed silica is an important inorganic chemical product. It is silica prepared through a vapor - phase reaction, usually with methyltrichlorosilane as raw materials. Under high - temperature and specific vapor - phase conditions, these raw materials react with oxygen and hydrogen to produce fumed silica.

Application

As an effective reinforcing agent, fumed silica can significantly improve the physical and mechanical properties of rubber. It can interact with rubber molecular chains to form physical or chemical cross-linking points, enhancing the tensile strength, tear strength and wear resistance of rubber. In tire manufacturing, rubber tires with added fumed silica have better puncture resistance and abrasion resistance, which can improve the service life and safety of tires.

Adding fumed silica to plastics can improve the strength, hardness and toughness of plastics. For example, after adding fumed silica to engineering plastics such as polyamide (PA) and polycarbonate (PC), the tensile strength and flexural modulus of plastics can be significantly improved, enabling them to withstand greater external forces without deformation or damage.
