The most prevalent hydrate variant is Al2(SO4)3·18H2O. In its pure state, it exists as a colorless, transparent, block - shaped crystal or a fine crystalline powder. Yet, owing to the inclusion of impurities, its color can deviate, presenting as gray - white, light - yellow, or light - green.
This chemical compound has a high solubility in water, and the resulting aqueous solution exhibits acidic characteristics. When it undergoes hydrolysis, a gelatinous precipitate of aluminium hydroxide is produced.
