Sea salt is obtained through the evaporation of seawater, with sodium chloride as its main component. However, it retains a variety of natural minerals from seawater, such as magnesium, calcium, and potassium. The production process of sea salt primarily involves natural solar evaporation, where seawater is evaporated in salt pans to crystallize the salt. Depending on its use, sea salt can be divided into edible sea salt and industrial sea salt.The application areas of sea salt are relatively broad, encompassing both edible and industrial uses. Edible sea salt is mainly used for cooking and food preservation, adding a unique flavor to food. Industrial sea salt, on the other hand, is utilized in chemical production, water treatment, bath salts, and other fields.The advantage of sea salt lies in its natural composition and rich minerals, which give it high value in the food and health product sectors. Additionally, the production process of sea salt is relatively environmentally friendly, relying mainly on natural evaporation, thus having a smaller impact on the environment.
Sea Salt Production Process
(1) Seawater Collection:
Seawater, the raw material for large-grain sea salt, is typically collected from shallow beaches or bays in coastal areas. The collected seawater needs to undergo preliminary filtration to remove larger impurities and suspended solids.
(2) Evaporation in Salt Pans:
The collected seawater is introduced into salt pans, which usually consist of multiple evaporation ponds. Under the influence of sunlight and wind, the water in the seawater gradually evaporates, increasing the concentration of salt. To ensure the quality of the salt, the depth of the water in the evaporation ponds needs to be adjusted according to weather conditions.
(3) Crystallization and Collection:
When the salt concentration reaches saturation, salt begins to crystallize. The crystallization process usually takes several weeks or even months to ensure the size and quality of the salt grains. After crystallization is complete, the salt grains are collected from the salt pans either manually or mechanically.(4) Drying and Packaging:
The collected salt grains need to be dried to remove excess moisture. After drying, the salt grains are screened and graded to remove impurities and fine particles. Finally, the salt grains are packaged into products of different specifications, ready for sale.
