It has strong reducing properties and is easily oxidized in the air. It is commonly used in the food industry for preservation, bleaching, and anti-oxidation. In industry, it is used for bleaching in the printing and dyeing industry, cooking in the paper-making process, and wastewater treatment. It can also serve as a chemical raw material for the production of other sulfur-containing compounds.
