Application
Zinc sulfate is an important zinc fertilizer. It can supplement zinc elements for crops and promote the growth and development of crops. Zinc is a constituent and activator of many enzymes and participates in physiological processes such as photosynthesis and respiration of plants. It can improve the stress resistance of crops, increase crop yield and improve quality. For example, in corn cultivation, the application of zinc sulfate can effectively prevent the "white and green seedling" disease of corn and increase the seed setting rate and 1000-grain weight of corn.
In the papermaking process, potassium alum dodecahydrate is mainly used as a sizing agent. It can form a protective film with cellulose in paper, reduce the absorption of liquids such as ink by paper, make writing more smooth, and also improve the water resistance of paper. From a chemical perspective, aluminum ions can react with hydroxyl groups (-OH) in cellulose, thereby forming a coating with waterproof properties on the surface of paper fibers.
