Application
In the process of magnesium smelting, anhydrous magnesium sulfate can be used as one of the raw materials. Through a series of complex chemical reduction reactions, for example, the carbothermic reduction method can be used. Using anhydrous magnesium sulfate as a raw material, a reducing agent (such as carbon) is used to reduce magnesium from magnesium sulfate at high temperatures.
In the dyeing and printing process, a mordant helps the dye adhere better to the fabric. Anhydrous magnesium sulfate can form complex chemical bonds or physical adsorption relationships with dye molecules and fabric fibers.
It can improve the color fastness, including wash fastness and rubbing fastness. The fabric treated with anhydrous magnesium sulfate as a mordant is less likely to have the dye come off during washing or rubbing and can maintain the vividness and durability of the color, thus improving the quality of the dyed and printed products.
In water treatment, hard water is a common problem. Hard water contains a relatively large amount of calcium and magnesium ions. Anhydrous magnesium sulfate can be used as part of the ion - exchange process to soften water. When hard water containing calcium and magnesium ions passes through a device equipped with special ion - exchange resins, the sodium ions in the resins can be exchanged with the calcium and magnesium ions in the water. Anhydrous magnesium sulfate can be used to regenerate these ion - exchange resins. For example, after the ion - exchange resin has been used for a period of time and its exchange capacity has decreased, it can be treated with a regeneration solution containing anhydrous magnesium sulfate to restore its exchange capacity.
