Appearance: Presenting as either colorless cubic crystals or white powder, the substance has crystals with a regular form and a pure - looking appearance. Under normal storage conditions, it exhibits excellent stability.
Solubility: It shows high solubility in water, and the dissolution process is endothermic. Since the phosphate ion undergoes hydrolysis in water, its aqueous solution is alkaline, leading to an increase in the solution's pH value.
Melting Point and Density: With a relatively low melting point within the range of 73.4 - 76.7ºC and a density of approximately 1.62g/cm³, its physical state varies with temperature changes. For instance, when heated, it loses its crystal water.

Application
As an important builder, trisodium phosphate can chelate metal ions in water, reduce the hardness of water, enable surfactants in detergents to better play their roles, enhance the emulsifying and dispersing ability of oil stains and dirt, and improve the washing effect. In industrial detergent formulations, trisodium phosphate is a common ingredient and is used to clean various industrial equipment and parts.
Industrial water often contains a large amount of metal ions such as calcium and magnesium. Trisodium phosphate can react with these ions to form insoluble precipitates of calcium phosphate and magnesium phosphate, thereby reducing the hardness of water and preventing the formation of scale in equipment such as pipes and boilers. For example, in the circulating water treatment system of a thermal power plant, adding trisodium phosphate can effectively reduce the damage of scale to equipment and extend the service life of equipment.
In the pretreatment process of cotton fabric, trisodium phosphate is used in the scouring process. It can remove natural impurities, oils and waxes on cotton fibers, improve the whiteness and water absorption of cotton fabric, and create good conditions for subsequent dyeing and printing processes.
In the paper sizing process, trisodium phosphate can be used as an auxiliary agent to help the sizing agent better adhere to the paper surface, improve the water resistance and strength of the paper, and improve the physical properties of the paper.
