Ion exchange technology is prevalently applied in water treatment. Water softeners generally utilize sodium ion exchange resin. When raw water flows through the resin, calcium and magnesium ions in the water are adsorbed, thereby reducing water hardness.
Through the backwashing process, sodium ions are exchanged with the calcium and magnesium ions adsorbed by the resin, displacing these ions to restore the adsorption capacity of the ion exchange resin. This procedure is referred to as the regeneration of ion exchange resin.
