Solubility: easily soluble in water, when dissolved in water it will be ionised, generating magnesium ions and sulphate ions. Its aqueous solution is neutral, this is because magnesium sulphate is a salt produced by the reaction between strong acid and strong base (magnesium hydroxide, although magnesium hydroxide is a medium-strong base, but it can also be regarded as a base in this reaction). It is also soluble in glycerol, but insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol.
Density and melting point: the density is about 1.68g/cm³, the melting point is 1124ºC (magnesium sulfate heptahydrate will first lose the water of crystallisation during heating, this melting point is the melting point of magnesium sulfate anhydrous).
