1. Chemical Composition and Properties
-Its chemical formula is CO(NH2)2. It is a white, odorless, solid compound that is highly soluble in water.

2. Role in Agriculture
- Nitrogen Source : It is a rich source of nitrogen. Nitrogen is an essential nutrient for plant growth, helping plants in processes such as photosynthesis, and the production of proteins and chlorophyll.
- Fertilizing Mechanism : When urea is applied to the soil, it undergoes hydrolysis. The enzyme urease breaks down urea into ammon ia (NH3) and carbon dioxide (CO2). The ammon ia is then converted into ammonium (NH4+) by reacting with water, which is readily absorbed by plant roots.

3. Application Methods
- Broadcasting : Urea can be spread evenly over the soil surface before or during planting.
- Side-Dressing : It can also be applied to the side of growing plants to provide a mid-season nitrogen boost.

4. Advantages
- High Nitrogen Content : It has a relatively high nitrogen content (about 46%), which means less material needs to be applied compared to fertilizers with lower nitrogen concentrations.
