Zinc sulfate is an important inorganic compound. Its chemical form is ZnSO4. Common forms come in hydrate, such as Zinc sulfate heptahydrate (ZnSO4 · 7H2O).
In appearance, anhydrous zinc sulfate is a white powder, and zinc sulfate heptahydrate is a colorless transparent crystal. It is easily soluble in water, and its aqueous solution is acidic, which is due to the hydrolysis of zinc ions. The density of zinc sulfate varies with hydration, with anhydrous zinc sulfate density about 3.54g/cm³ and zinc sulfate heptahydrate about 1.957g/cm³. The melting point of anhydrous zinc sulfate is 100ºC, and the boiling point decomposes at high temperatures (>500ºC).
