Physical Properties
• Appearance: Light blue-green monoclinic crystals or granules, odorless and tasteless.
• Density: 1.898 g/mL (at 25°C).
• Melting Point: 64°C.
• Boiling Point: 330°C (at 760 mmHg).
• Solubility: Highly soluble in water, with a solubility of 25.6 g/100 mL at 20°C. The aqueous solution is acidic, with a pH value of approximately 3.0-4.0 (at 25°C, 50 mg/mL).
• Stability: Prone to efflorescence in dry air, and easily oxidized to a brownish-yellow basic sulfate in humid environments.
Chemical Properties
• Reducing Property: The ferrous ion (Fe²+) has strong reducing properties and is easily oxidized to the trivalent iron ion (Fe³+).
• Hydrate Nature: Loses three molecules of crystallization water at 56.6°C, becomes a monohydrate at 65°C to 90°C, turns into a white anhydrous substance at 300°C, and begins to decompose at 480°C.
• Acidity: The aqueous solution is acidic, with a pH value of approximately 3.0-4.0 (at 25°C, 50 mg/mL).
