In drinking - water treatment, drinking - water - grade PAC proves highly effective in eliminating suspended substances like sediment and rust. Once the raw water enters the treatment system, PAC undergoes hydrolysis, resulting in the formation of aluminum hydroxide colloid. These colloids possess positive charges, allowing them to attract suspended substances and negatively - charged colloids within the water.
For instance, river or lake raw water commonly contains fine sediment particles and organic colloids. PAC, through charge neutralization and adsorption bridging mechanisms, causes these impurities to aggregate into larger flocs. This aggregation makes it easier to remove the impurities via sedimentation or filtration processes.
