- In air, it gradually oxidizes. The ferrous ions Fe2+ are oxidized to ferric ions Fe3+, causing the color of the compound to change over time from blue - green to brownish. It can react with various chemicals, such as alkalis, to form insoluble iron hydroxide precipitates.

4. Production
