Sodium Thiosulfate exists as a colorless crystal, being odorless. It gives a cool and bitter taste when sensed. With a specific gravity of 1.729, upon being heated to 100 °C, it loses 5 crystal waters. This substance is soluble in water but insoluble in alcohol, and it shows strong reducibility. In dry air above 33 °C, it is prone to weathering, while in humid air, it will deliquesce.

Application

During the hair removal stage of leather processing, sodium thiosulfate plays a crucial role. It has the ability to break the disulfide bonds (-S-S-) present in the hair. By doing so, it reduces the strength of the connection between the hair and the leather, making it much simpler for the hair to separate from the leather surface.
