Sodium Thiosulfate , colorless crystal, odorless, it has a cool and bitter taste. The specific gravity is 1.729, heated to 100 °C, and 5 crystal waters are lost. It can soluble in water and insoluble in alcohol, and it has strong reducibility. It is easily weathered in dry air above 33 °C and deliquescent in humid air.

Application

In the hair removal process of leather processing, sodium thiosulfate can help break the disulfide bonds (-S-S-) in hair, making it easier for hair to fall off from the leather. In the tanning process, it can react with metal ions such as chromium ions in leather to form stable complexes, enhancing the corrosion resistance and flexibility of leather.

 

In the printing and dyeing process, some dyes can better combine with fabrics only in a reduced state. Sodium thiosulfate has reducibility and can reduce certain oxidized dyes to reducible states that can be dyed. For example, for some dye intermediates containing nitro groups (-NO2), sodium thiosulfate can reduce the nitro group to an amino group (-NH2), making the dye easier to color and improving the color fastness of dyeing.

 

In tap water treatment and industrial circulating water systems, sodium thiosulfate can be used to remove residual in water. This is similar to its principle as a dechlorinating agent in textile printing and dyeing, and can prevent the corrosion of equipment and pipelines by residual.
