It has a melting point of 772°C and a boiling point of about 1600°C. Highly hygroscopic, it readily absorbs moisture from the air. It is extremely soluble in water, releasing heat during dissolution.

• Chemical Properties: Stable under normal conditions, CaCl2 reacts with strong bases like NaOH to form precipitates in certain reactions. It can also participate in metathesis reactions with other salts to produce new compounds.

2. Production Methods

1. From Natural Brines: Evaporation of natural brines rich in calcium and Cl ions, followed by purification processes such as filtration and crystallization, yields anhydrous CaCl2.
2. Reaction with HCl: Reacting calcium carbonate (CaCO3) with HCl produces calcium chloride. After the reaction, excess acid is removed, and the solution is evaporated to obtain the anhydrous form.
