Appearance: It appears as colorless cubic crystals or white powder. The crystal has a regular shape and looks pure, and it has good stability under normal storage conditions.
Solubility: It is easily soluble in water and absorbs heat during the dissolving process. Its aqueous solution is alkaline because the phosphate ion undergoes a hydrolysis reaction, which increases the pH value of the solution.
Melting Point and Density: It has a relatively low melting point, ranging from 73.4 - 76.7ºC, and a density of about 1.62g/cm³. Its physical state changes accordingly with temperature variation. For example, it will lose its crystal water when heated.

Application

In the textile printing and dyeing industry, trisodium phosphate plays a crucial role in multiple processes, namely scouring, bleaching, and dyeing. During the scouring stage, the alkaline nature of trisodium phosphate is harnessed to effectively eliminate various natural impurities present on fabrics, such as the tenacious cottonseed hulls and the gummy pectin. When it comes to the bleaching procedure, it functions as an invaluable auxiliary, serving to fortify and stabilize the performance of bleaching agents, thereby enhancing the overall bleaching outcome and ensuring a more satisfactory result.

 

In industrial circulating cooling water systems, trisodium phosphate is used for water softening and scale prevention. It can combine with calcium, magnesium and other ions in water to prevent these ions from forming scale on the surface of pipelines and equipment, thereby improving heat exchange efficiency and prolonging the service life of equipment. For example, in the cooling system of a thermal power plant, adding trisodium phosphate can effectively reduce the generation of scale.

 

Used in processes such as scouring, bleaching and dyeing in the printing and dyeing industry. In the scouring process, the alkalinity of trisodium phosphate can help remove natural impurities on fabrics, such as cottonseed hulls and pectin. In the bleaching process, it can be used as an auxiliary agent to stabilize the effect of bleaching agents and improve the bleaching effect.
