The melting point of the pentahydrate is 48 °C, and it dissolves in the crystal water when melting. It is easily soluble in water, and the aqueous solution is weakly alkaline. It is insoluble in alcohol. It will effloresce and lose crystal water in dry air above 33 °C, and it is deliquescent in humid air.
