    Chemical Reactivity

    When heated above 110°C, it decomposes, releasing hydrogen chloride (HCl) and breaking down into aluminum oxide. It undergoes depolymerization when reacting with acids, reducing the degree of polymerization and basicity until it becomes a normal salt. When reacting with alkalis like NaOH, the degree of polymerization and basicity increase, eventually forming aluminum hydroxide or aluminate. When mixed with polyvalent salts such as aluminum sulfate, precipitation is likely to occur, often reducing or completely losing its coagulation performance.

3. Production Methods

   (1). Metal Aluminum Method

  • Raw Materials: Mainly use aluminum processing scraps such as aluminum chips, aluminum ash, and aluminum slag.
  • Process: Hydroxyl Al powder with high purity is used. The production process generally adopts heating and pressurized acid - dissolving method. The synthesized PAC has low content of toxic substances such as heavy metals.

   (2). Aluminum Ash HCl Method

  • Raw Materials: Aluminum ash (mainly composed of aluminum oxide and metallic aluminum), HCl, and water.
  • Process: Aluminum ash is added to a reactor pre - filled with washing water at a certain ratio. Then, HCl is slowly added under stirring for polycondensation reaction. After ripening and polymerization until the pH value reaches 4.2 - 4.5 and the relative density of the solution is about 1.2, sedimentation is carried out to obtain liquid PAC. The liquid product can be further diluted, filtered, evaporated, concentrated, and dried to obtain solid PAC.

4. Boiling Pyrolysis Method

  • Raw Materials: Crystalline aluminum chloride.
  • Process: Crystalline aluminum chloride is subjected to boiling pyrolysis at 170°C. The released hydrogen chloride is absorbed by water to prepare 20% HCl for recycling. Then, water is added for ripening and polymerization above 60°C. After that, it goes through solidification, drying, and crushing to produce solid PAC.

5. Storage

  • PAC should be stored in a dry, moisture - proof, and heat - avoiding place.
  • Since it has certain corrosiveness, the storage container should be made of corrosion - resistant materials.
  • The effective storage period of liquid PAC is usually about half a year, while that of solid PAC is about two years.
